Now\, in her stunning follow-up\, An Altar in the World\, she shares how she learned to encounter God beyond the walls of any church. \nFrom simple practices such as walking\, working\, and getting lost to deep meditations on topics like prayer and pronouncing blessings\, Taylor reveals concrete ways to discover the sacred in the small things we do and see. Something as ordinary as hanging clothes on a clothesline becomes an act of devotion if we pay attention to what we are doing and take time to attend to the sights\, smells\, and sounds around us. Making eye contact with the cashier at the grocery store becomes a moment of true human connection. Allowing yourself to get lost leads to new discoveries. Under Taylor’s expert guidance\, we come to question conventional distinctions between the sacred and the secular\, learning that no physical act is too earthbound or too humble to become a path to the divine. DESCRIPTION:On Monday\, February 2nd (the Feast of the Presentation/“Candlemas”) at 6:00 p.m.\, Bishop Russell Kendrick is inviting the people of the Central Gulf Coast diocese to a diocesan-wide prayer vigil. To that end\, All Saints Episcopal will host an in-person vigil in the church at that time. \nIf you can’t attend the in-person vigil at the church\, you can join the online vigil with the diocese by going to the diocesan website and looking at the header that says “Join us for an online prayer vigil Monday\, February 2\, 6 p.m. CT.” The first link is Russell+’s video invitation to prayer; the second link is for Zoom\, to connect to the vigil itself [note: if you haven’t done a Zoom in a while it is recommended that you open the Zoom app on your device and see if it runs any updates; that way you won’t miss the vigil]. DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to an unveiling of the UNESCO Middle Passage Port Marker at Lewis Landing on Monday\, January 19 at 1 pm at Lewis Landing Park\, 1365 Conception Street Rd\, Mobile\, AL 36610. Please RSVP at the EventBrite page here. \nOn May 14\, 2025\, Mobile County broke ground on its latest Africatown investment\, the Lewis Landing park on Conception Street Road\, named for its proximity to Africatown’s historic Lewis Quarters neighborhood. First identified as an opportunity by Africatown community groups during the Africatown Connections Blueway planning phases\, the Mobile County Commission\, spearheaded by District 1 Commissioner Merceria Ludgood\, came to recognize the site’s potential\, as well\, and in 2020 purchased the property utilizing funds from the Alabama Department of Conservation & Natural Resources’ GOMESA grantmaking program. In 2023\, the ADCNR again awarded Mobile County GOMESA funds to enter into a design phase for the park. \nThe Lewis Landing facility will feature many of the amenities sought by residents and stakeholders including a kayak launch\, pavilions\, multiple fishing piers\, and plenty of green spaces all overlooking an incredibly beautiful segment of Three Mile Creek unseen by most.

Reserve your spot here: https://revivethevillage.eventbrite.com \nAfter witnessing the events at the U.S. Capitol on January 6\, 2021\, friends and co-founders Amelia Bacon and Beverly Cooper\, started the non-profit organization focused on non-partisan voter education and advocacy organization in South Alabama. \n“For many\, including us\, it was clear that for the sake of our democracy and its future\, we could no longer remain on the sidelines\,” said Beverly Cooper\, co-founder of Stand Up Mobile. “We started with education and engagement to encourage voting as one of the key cornerstones of our democracy\, our work has continued to expand as we saw needs. And\, it has been nonstop.” \nThe organization started by focusing on education and advocacy in the Black community\, where the community has been chronically underrepresented in government at all levels. Over the years\, they have held dozens of town hall meetings and attended countless community events to share information about registering to vote and helping citizens check their voter registration. The organization also has a program where they visit local schools to talk about the importance of voting and let students visit a mock voting booth to weigh in on the pressing issue of what kind of cookie is best. Through year-round civic and community engagement initiatives for all ages\, they have been able to build a more informed and empowered citizenry.

Here is their message:\n\n\n\nJoin us to learn about seed starting! We are going to use a method called “winter sowing” to germinate native plants and garden crops. Some seeds will be provided\, but feel free to bring your own. This event is free\, but it would help a lot if people can bring some materials. Not everyone needs to bring each thing\, but bring what you can.\n\n\n1. Potting mix\, compost\, soil\, or another seed starting medium—we will need several bags of this\n2. Containers with a clear or translucent top—this can be milk jugs\, vinegar bottles\, catering trays\, plastic rotisserie chicken containers—larger containers will be more helpful than smaller ones\, but bring something you can carry once it is full of soil\n3.
