Dr. James McClintock: Antarctica

February 7, 2023, 5:30 pm7:00 pm

Brought to you by Gulf Coast Creation Care and Sierra Club
Western Antarctica is experiencing record warming temperatures that are causing glacial recessions and ice shelf break-ups. Annual sea ice is rapidly receding with warming seas. Dr. McClintock will tell the stories of sea ice-dependent marine animals that are being impacted by these dramatic changes to their habitats. Also considered is how Antarctic Ocean currents are influencing climate change in the northern hemisphere, including Alabama. He will also share how humankind, through global collaboration, successfully addressed closing the hole in the ozone over Antarctica. This successful, cooperative endeavor offers a hopeful model to address our global climate change crisis.
When: Tuesday Evening, February 7th at 5:30 p.m. (Light refreshments served prior to the presentation, speaker begins at 6 pm)
