MCCRP Lynching Marker Ceremony

The Mobile County Community Remembrance Project is placing it’s second set of lynching markers on Sunday afternoon, May 17 at 2 pm along the Whistler Trail in Prichard.
This ceremony will commemorate the extrajudicial killings of Zachariah Graham (on March 31, 1881 near the Train Depot) and James Lewis (on June 6,1919, near the Prichard stadium).
Attendees will witness a commemorative service and participate in a Litany of Remembrance led by Rev. Rebekah Lamar. The first marker was placed in January of 2023 in collaboration with Montgomery’s Equal Justice Initiative and can be viewed in the southwest corner of Mardi Gras Park.
